GAMES OF THE XXXIII OLYMPIAD – PARIS 2024
The Olympic Games represent the pinnacle of sporting success, where the world’s best athletes – men and women – compete for Olympic medals and sporting glory. The Games are an event that brings together sport, business, culture and art, where the Olympic values come to life. This year the Games return to Europe for the first time in twelve years – and the fashion (and sporting) capital of the world is impatiently awaiting the arrival of the world’s sporting elite.
Paris last hosted the Games exactly one hundred years ago, when Leon Štukelj became the first Olympic champion in Slovene history. Slovenia’s first Olympic gold medallist went on to add to his collection of Olympic medals at the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928, where he won a gold and two bronzes, and the Berlin Olympics in 1936, where he added a silver to his collection.
Promising to be an unforgettable spectacle for all participants, the upcoming Games will not only mark a turning point for the organisers, they have a particular significance for Slovenia, since the country’s athletes will be returning to the Olympic venue where the first chapter in Slovenia’s Olympic history was written.
The largest Olympic delegation in the history of independent Slovenia is due to travel to Paris. The country’s best athletes have worked hard for years for their Olympic opportunity and we will soon be crossing our fingers for them as they appear in front of the millions of supporters thronging the Olympic venues.
