Sports of the Mediterranean

The theme of this year’s stamp from Euromed Postal, an association which unites the postal operators of Mediterranean countries, is Sports of the Mediterranean. Pošta Slovenije’s stamp features the three sports from the Mediterranean Games in which Slovenia’s athletes have enjoyed the greatest success. These are: basketball, volleyball and swimming.

The designer has used the colours orange and blue, for their symbolic connection with the hot Mediterranean sun and the blue of the sea. Through her choice of subject and colours, the designer has also drawn attention to the most important component of all sporting competitions, where it is not only results that are important but, above all, the bringing together of different Mediterranean cities, regions and countries and their inhabitants.
