Slovenia in Superlatives: Volčji Potok Arboretum

Volčji Potok Arboretum is one of the most visited cultural heritage destinations in Slovenia. In recent years it has recorded more than 300,000 admissions per year, with season ticket holders accounting for almost half of all visitors. They come to the arboretum because its well-kept green environment is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature, spend an active day out with the family, learn interesting facts and attend cultural events. Visitors to the arboretum can follow marked footpaths to explore 80 hectares (nearly 200 acres) of park and woodland and admire various themed plantings, visit the greenhouses, climb the viewing tower, see the exhibits in the gallery and take advantage of facilities including a large tree-shaded children’s playground, a café and a shop. You should allow half a day for your first visit to Volčji Potok Arboretum.

Volčji Potok Arboretum is a cultural monument and natural resource of national importance. The historical park and botanical collection comprising 2,500 different species and varieties of woody plants are looked after by a dedicated public institute, which in 2022 received an Award of Garden Excellence from the World Federation of Rose Societies.

The special stamp draws attention to tulips, whose flowering marks the start of the main horticultural season. Flowering then continues until autumn, while fairy-lit evening strolls during the festive season mean that the arboretum is worth visiting all the way into the new year.
