Philatelic Exhibition DvanajstoOkno, Kranj 2026

DvanajstoOkno Kranj 2026 opens its windows

The twelfth edition of this biennial specialised philatelic exhibition with international participation marks a fitting anniversary contribution by the Slovenian Philatelic Association to the development of the competitive class devoted to narrowly defined themes. Initially, such exhibits were confined to a single exhibition frame, which is why the first exhibition, held in 2003, was named EnoOkno (“One Window”). At the time, this “window” onto a single theme formed part of an initiative by the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP), which, incidentally, celebrates its centenary this year, to broaden collecting and exhibiting activity within the space of a single frame. The concept has proved highly successful, not least through the exhibitions in Kranj, which every two years attract exhibitors from Central Europe as well as the Balkanfila region. Presenting philatelic stories in a single frame has become firmly established internationally, although not as a separate competitive class as originally envisaged, but rather as part of the individual competitive classes, such as traditional philately, postal history, postal stationery, thematic philately and others. A further development, proposed and justified by the Federation of European Philatelic Associations (FEPA) three years ago, extended the format from one to as many as three exhibition frames.

The growing use of digital presentations of collections enables exhibitors from distant parts of the world to participate, since there is no need to transport collections physically. The organisers therefore particularly welcome entries from overseas countries and the opportunity to discover entirely new stories. Alongside the exhibition in Kranj's historic Town Hall, organised in cooperation with the Gorenjska Museum, visitors can also view the collections on the Slovenian Philatelic Association's website at www.fzs.si.

The Kranj exhibitions have provided an important platform for exhibitors from our region to develop their skills. One particularly notable success is that of an exhibitor who first took part at OsmoOkno 2017 and went on to receive a Large Gold Medal at the World Philatelic Exhibition in Boston in May 2026.
