Special postage stamp commemorating the Celje 2022 Firefighting Olympics
The International Association of Fire and Rescue Services (CTIF) organises a combined international fire brigade competition and international youth fire brigade competition every four years and a stand-alone international youth fire brigade competition every intervening two years. Teams from Slovenia have taken part in all competitions held since Slovenia became independent. Slovenia’s firefighters are known across Europe and around the world for two things: the fact that they work on a voluntary basis and their impressive record in competitions.
The Firefighting Association of Slovenia hosted the world’s biggest firefighting event for the first time this year. The Celje 2022 Firefighting Olympics took place from 17 to 24 July 2022. The patron of the event was Borut Pahor, the president of the Republic of Slovenia. Around 3,000 active participants from 25 countries took part in the event and Celje welcomed tens of thousands of visitors from Slovenia and abroad over the course of the competition week. The City Municipality of Celje and firefighters from the Celje Firefighting Association, the Celje region and all over Slovenia worked hard to ensure that participants were well looked after and that everything ran smoothly. Around 2,000 volunteer firefighters were activated to help with the organisation of the event.
