DEVELOPMENT OF SLOVENE IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

The last century has been marked by relentless technological advances, including the development of linguistic technologies. Our means of communication have been shifted mainly into the digital world, which has made it easier to monitor the Slovene language and the preparation of resources such as dictionaries and lexicons, as well as tools, including machine translation, speech recognition, predictive text and automatic punctuation and more.

Slovenia recognised the importance of the development of modern technologies for the Slovene language, and for this reason provided financial support for the project Development of Slovene in the Digital Environment, as part of which we are issuing a special stamp this year.

The project involves the ground-breaking cooperation of 12 institutions, including corporations and the biggest education and research organisations in Slovenia. Together they are developing technologies that will support the development of the language in the digital age. In this way the Slovene language will march in step with the times: in new ways of communicating, spending leisure time and methods of work in the future.

The project Development of Slovene in the Digital Environment is co-funded by the Slovenian government and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The project is being run as part of the Operational Programme for the Implementation of the European Cohesion Policy 2014–2020.
